Comprehensive tumor treatment center
The Department of Radiological Neurosurgery is a key department of the hospital, which has 1 professor and 4 attending physicians and technologists-in-charge with middle title. It has a full set of sophisticated instruments and equipment for radiological neurosurgery, including the world’s most advanced U.S. RSA fifth-generation X knife, the U.S. VARIAN linear accelerator, the Japanese Toshiba simulator, the U.S. PROWESS3000 treatment planning system, etc. Its total equipment is worth nearly RMB 40 million. The international advanced “precision conformal intensity modulated radiation therapy equipment” to be installed in early 2009 will greatly enrich the treatment means for the department and improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment.
Feature 1: New diagnostic and curative concept. It combines the traditional neurosurgical treatment with the modern latest radiotherapy technology and achieves successful integration of the above two different areas in respect of both the treatment method and the subject framework, ensuring the best diagnosis and treatment are provided for the patients effectively. Feature 2: Good equipment performance. In addition to the domestic first-class conventional external radiation equipment (linear accelerator, simulator, treatment planning system), it also owns the fifth-generation X knife, which has excellent performance and is at the domestic advanced level. The equipment locates the body lesions for the patients through combining CT with the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which not only absorbs the strong point of MRI sensitivity, but also brings the advantage of CT accuracy into play. It is especially effective for the treatment of multiple brain metastases, pituitary microadenoma, lesions around the brain stem and nasopharyngeal cancer. The introduction of the “precision conformal intensity modulated radiation therapy equipment” will make our hospital become one of the few medical institutions owning the equipment, and play a better role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

It firstly carries out X knife treatment of dural arteriovenous fistula and radiation therapy of the pineal germ cell tumors accompanied with obstructive hydrocephalus, and achieves good results. It has completed more than 1500 cases of X knife treatment for various intracranial tumors and cerebral vascular malformations, and more than 4000 cases of conventional external radiotherapy for various tumors, thus relieving pain for a large number of patients.
